Caerus

At the turn of the 22nd century, Earth was facing overpopulation, severe pollution and a rapid depletion of resources. Surveying efforts to find a habitable planet to colonise intensified, and when a peculiar planet tidally locked to the sun was found to have a temperate, habitable area at its terminator zone, the corporate giant, Atlas, saw it as an opportunity to expand their wealth and power to a new uncharted territory. They bought over the planet, dubbed it Caerus after the Greek God of opportunity and favourable moments, and began the process of terraforming for human habitation.

Being a tidally locked planet, one side of Caerus constantly faces the sun while the other half is blanketed by a perpetual darkness. At the center of the planet where the two sides meet, is the terminator zone, where the land is in perpetual twilight and the climate temperate enough for human habitation.

In the early years of the establishment of Caerus, it was marketed as a new sanctuary where one could escape the dirty overcrowded streets of Earth. Only the wealthy could afford to relocate to Caerus.

THE FRINGES

At the fringes of the terminator zone, temperatures drop radically. The frigid temperatures and hostile environment of the fringes render the region unlivable to all but the most desperate. Settlers in the fringes are typically refugees, outcasts, and exiles from Earth.
